Spam on Instagram many accounts hacked last week end

Spam on Instagram. Many accounts hacked last weekend

.

Unfortunately it seems spam is invading our beloved Instagram. What is really happening?

.

Last weekend, Instagramers.com received dozens of user reports of severe spam attacks on account privacy. Even Igers ourselves discovered our account had a pic that we didn’t post promoting a campaign (see right).

.

Huge increase of spam on Instagram recently

.

“Guerrilla Marketing” agencies and “Low Cost” advertising Strategies  with no respect for users and attracted by our 100 million audience are abusing our rights. Many accounts from different countries have been hacked and it’s a real worry for Instagramers. It is not only annoying, it means our accounts’ privacy could be violated at any time.

.

Pd. The campaign promotes a dubious-looking offer for an on-line site and we hope Instagram will soon get rid of this kind of hackers. Please report any problems to Instagram HelpDesk.

Last Tasks focused on Reducing comment spam according Instagram Team:

.
We introduced changes to comments in order to reduce spam on Instagram. There are so many great conversations that take place in the comment feeds on photos, and we want to make sure those conversations aren’t interrupted by spammy comments. Now, when you post the same comment on multiple photos, including emoji, you will receive a pop-up warning prompting you to learn more or delete your comment. We’re also filtering for certain words and phrases. We hope these changes encourage more genuine interactions between users. More info here.

  2. I have had 15 likes and about 100 spams on one picture and they keep pouring in. Turning off notifications does not help and Instagram should address this issue at once before people start to run away.
I am already tired of this and even people I block spam me again.

  3. I’ve noticed this surge myself, over the past 24 hours; I have worn out my fingers reporting the spam-tards, all of whom seem to be focusing on whatever my most recent picture is; The only solution I have found is to place my account on private until this wave of junk is finally dealt with, which sucks – what’s the point of a social network if you can’t be social?

  5. Can Instagram make a direct button on the profiles page to block and report scams with one click? I dont see the point in having to confirm a block. This is what turns me off in blocking spamers. Why are 3 clicks needed to get rid og the shit?

  6. Their tools aren’t working. Now spammers are using certain hashtags to spam an account. For instance, if I use the popular #iPhoneography hashtag, my comments & likes get flooded by spammers. Having links in the comments section isn’t the issue. One way to over come that is to not use hashtags which sucks because its a great feature. Sadly I have close 8k followers and I’m almost certain 3k of them are fake. :-( Instagram needs to fix this ASAP, it’s getting out of hand.

  7. The spam continues to rise and no one seems to be tackling it properly. it does need to be sorted out because it takes the fun away from instagram. Plus, arguments arise from it as ive been used to spam other accounts when i have done nothing wrong, it needs to be sorted out :(

  8. People comment on other pictures saying something like, “Want to gain followers fast? Goto this profile: ” and in that profile there is a link saying something like, “GET FREE FOLLOWERS! CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW!” DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK! If you do, the person who has the link in their profile has access to your account. They go on your account and comment “Want to gain followers fast? Goto this profile: ” on other accounts.

    • Hi there. I’ve experienced this kind of problem for the past 2 days. I’m very annoyed to found that my account has been posting random comments to other users. This is really troublesome as an Instagram user. Hmm, do you have any solutions for this? Thank you!

  9. One of my IG friends got spammed so badly, it basically killed his account. There was a literally non-stop stream of spam coming in and he couldn’t control it. He had to abandon his great feed and large number of followers. You can’t even view his old feed now, as it’s been corrupted. Might have to go private until it settles down as it’s driving me insane.

  10. Does anyone else find it incredibly ironic that the first comment on this story is spam? Your filters do not work. The only photo I’ve posted in the last mth that hasn’t been spammed is the one threatening to block and report them. Funny how only 2 ppl liked that one, and I used 30 hash tags to get it out there.
Instagram is starting to drive me nuts. I’d rather post my photos on twitter at this rate.

  11. Lately I have had a few followers who have none or 4 or 5 photographs. Is this what they do to spam you? It puzzles me how they get 50,00 followers in an ap thats created to share photographs. when at the same time they have not a single photograph.

  12. Strangly i have not had a single spam today……:)

  13. Four days with none or few spams is a new record. I always report the spams and wish a one-click reporting possibility will be looked into.
What about a security question to comment posts? Like 1+1 or 2+2…..

    • I am doing quite well now. Had only 1 spam in about 3 weeks. One thing i find odd in the followers and following list. Why are they not placed in alphabetical order? Its almost impossible to search for users.
Arranging the names must be easy to get done.

  14. I joined instagram the other day and it’s been nothing but an endless run of spam. About 10 ‘morefollowers’, another 10 nudey pic links, 3 comments (my only ones) all get a free iPad ones. It’s shockingly bad. I am a genuine amateur photographer who has used Flickr and 500px for years and i joined instagram because I just wanted to try something new and have an excuse to upload photos taken on my phone which otherwise would have been just left on the card and I wanted to try out the filters etc to see if they’re any good. I like the app and the concept but if this spam doesn’t settle down in two weeks I’m deffo deleting my account… it’s ridiculous… I’m sad about the stuff people will do to ruin something good.

    • We also use EyeEm app and website which is similar to IG, but in many ways it’s better.. check it out, there’s no spam there.

Another point, your IG spam issues may be the result of certain hashtags. Try using specific hashtags for your subject/photos, like: #vw #volkswagen #beetle #bug rather than #webstagram #instamood #instagramhub etc, as these are followed and used by spamers.

      Hope that helps

      Matt

  15. Really close to give up Instagram. I’ll try until the end of the year but after I’ll move forward as it becomes a waste of time.

Amongst the things that annoy me:
    – followers count means nothing anymore.
    – spam comments on my photographs
    – comments with my username to make sure I read the spam.

I can see several actions possible from Instagram:
    – remove/report and block actions at once on the comment
    – improve the spam filter and or tool to detect those users (username, analyze the pictures, scan the comments)

Unfortunately, spammers are like sportsmen taking drugs: they’re usually a step ahead.

  16. Yep, I’ve just joined ig and am already over it due to the spamfest. It’s a shame that they don’t seem to be doing anything about fixing the problem. The spammers will kill ig if they haven’t already done so.

  17. If Instagram would make it more difficult to sign up, it would help resolve some of the issues. Such as having to sign in with those codes you can barely read. It maybe start charging a yearly fee, this would deter a lot of users who aren’t into photography, which is what Instagram was intended for.

    • Hey..maybe Andie hit onto something… Now there’s an excuse for IG to start charging… they have yet to come up with a revenue stream.. Please don’t go there, our beloved IG

      • no instead the claim the rights to steal our photos, I would rather pay a few euros a year

  19. I was looking at my followers and following list and I realized that nobody is in alphabetical order anymore. I was trying to find a user and it showed that I wasn’t following that person and that person wasn’t following me. It’s weird. Anyone have any ideas of what it might be?

        • You must have authorized someone/company to use your account. There’s a way to check, but again you should contact instagram support.

  22. I’ve noticed that half the followers I’m getting seem to be spammers, they seem to all follow in waves too, they all have the same 3 to 4 photos and say something stupid like ´tree lover, part time nanny, loves horses, making 3oo pound a week follow the link bellow´ or some tripe. very annoying.
I know many use bots for liking relevant posts, I figured that out when the same people seem to like my post as soon as I’ve hash tagged it, this doesn’t bother me really as they are genuine up loaders, its the ones trying to get you to follow a link and posting spam comments that gets me mad.
Oh by the way if you want to make money from Instagram… LOl only kidding. Ironic that the 1st post was spam, classic
