Mama, Instagram removed my account!!!!
.
.
You probably have seen Instagramers disappearing mysteriously from our favorite sharing photography network because of an inappropriate use of the app or you maybe had yourself one of your picture removed recently…
.
But If not, you surely have wondered how this could happen?
.
At Instagramers.com we decided to dedicate it a post.
Few months ago, in January 2011, i suffered myself a terrible account removal from Instagram Team but last week end, it was a friend of mine who was directly affected. The whole story.
.
.
Part 1: Mama I have 7.500 followers!
.
..
Pablo Almansa is a very well-known “Fine Art” photographer in Spain.
.
I know him for a long time now and he is known to be in the Top photographers “Elite” in Spain.
His web offers all kind of photography styles. From portraits of most famous people, actors, TV showmen to all kind of models and he recently won the golden medal of Advertising campaign “El Sol” with a campaign involving Spanish football players, cinema directors and actors.
.
Although, what made him really known are his “nude photography”… Pictures of the most famous and beautiful girls in our country.
.
Few Months ago, I talked to him and i encourage him to join Instagram as @pabloAlmansa and promote his art, works and web.
Instagram is a powerful communication machine and a place to show your art too!
.
His account grew rapidly and few months after, he was celebrating his first 5.000 users claiming joyfully “Mama. I´ve 5.000 followers” who appreciated Pablo´s art and the woman nudity.
.
Of course, Pablo´s pics have been probably flagged multiple times by users or simply detected by the instagram team and removed immediately from the site.
.
So Pablo found a solution and started to post #halfpics..
His #halfpics posts used to receive at least “500 liked” each. His users (men and women) enjoyed pics of his trips through Africa, Australia too but really, his main topic was “Nude girls”.
Until the day…
.
Mama they´ve deleted my Instagram account!
.
.
One night, during an Instameet with our friends of @IgersMurcia, we started to post pics when suddenly Pablo received the fatal “Hasta la vista Baby”!
“Your account has been disabled due to terms of service violations: …..”
R.I.P. He had lost in few seconds, his 7.500 followers! Months of work and dedication, posts, comments, contacts with people from all over the world and of course his professional and valuable “nickname” @pabloalmansa.
.
.
So you wonder… How would I feel if i´d lose my account in Instagram?
.
– Previously, you usually receive notifications because your pics are flagged by other users and your pics are duly removed. (see beside)
.
– If you “go on” with the same “habits” and infringe the Instagram Rules you finally receive the definitive notification. (see beside)
.
– Next step is usually to blaspheme and hate the whole Instagram Team.
.
– After a while, you can cry, create another account with a new nick with “0 Pictures, 0 Following, 0 followers” or leave IG.
.
We all imagine Pablo´s and his followers point of view.
They think Instagram team is really too drastic and that it´s not a good point to delete 100% works and posts of a professional photographer.
Most of all when it´s really part of his job.
“Everybody is free to love, like or hate my pics.. Follow me or not” says Pablo with shocked sight.
.
But we wanted to know what was Instagram Team opinion?
.
.
We decided to ask Instagram their opinion and what are the main causes of Instagramers account removals.
Josh Riedel ( @josh ) , community manager at Instagram kindly accepted to answer to our clarification requirement:
.
“On removed photos and accounts, we (Instagram Team) rely heavily on the Instagram community to help keep the photos on Instagram within our App Store guidelines and Terms of Use.
When a photo is flagged multiple times for nudity, copyright or another violation of our Terms of Use, it’s automatically removed from the site.
An excessive number of flags on multiple photos can result in permanent termination of an account.
Regarding nudity on Instagram, while we respect the artistic integrity of all sorts of photos, we’re doing our best to keep our product and all the photos within it in line with our App Store’s rating for nudity, which means we must remove such content when it’s brought to our attention”.
If you do want to have more information once your account has been removed, you can write to support@instagram.com
.
You can check here Instagram Legal Terms.
..
At Instagramers.com, we can easily understand Instagram wishes to keep “clean and cool” their app but we think they should probably dedicate more people to “Social Media” and detect exceptions.
Finding flexible ways to let this kind of artists sharing with our community their vision of art is a must if Instagram consider to be a free platform of art and cultural expression…
.
What´s your own experience and opinion about Instagram accounts removal? Do you think Instagram should change his policy?
