.
Instagram is where great creative and talented people come together.
.
Instagramers.com wants to contribute to helping you to discover surprising and creative users from all walks of life. Their common denominator? They are people addicted to Instagram telling us about their lives, revealing their passions and sharing their best Instagram tips.
.
Today we feature Emily Schreck aka @Beijingemily on Instagram!
My name is Emily Schreck and I’m an American girl from Atlanta, GA who decided to go out and see the world. I’ve been working and traveling for the past three years doing various things including learning Chinese in Beijing, and spending a year on the Great Barrier Reef. I am naturally optimistic and I enjoy life. When I take photos I’m hoping to give people a chance to see my perspective of life, and a world that is happy, shiny and full of beauty and adventures. You can check out my perspective on my Instagram (@beijingemily) or on my Facebook page.
.
Thank you very much Emily, for your contribution to this website!

Here we go!

You are: I am Emily Schreck, @Beijingemily on Instagram, a traveller and mobile phone photographer and all around happy girl.
You would like to be: A professional explorer, an educator, and recognized for what I do well
3 items to take to a desert island: Oh… does the island get 3G? haha. Just kidding. I would take a mask and snorkel and some sunscreen and a hat and a book. And maybe some surf music. I’m thinking “Surfin’ Safari” by the Beach Boys.
What has been your most bizarre life experience: It’s a toss up between somehow managing to get a job feeding 16 foot crocodiles in Australia, and being on live Chinese television with an audience of 500,000 people singing a song about wanting to marry a Chinese man.
Super power you would like to have: I have often thought that I would like to read minds, but it might take the fun out of life, and certainly out of dating. So probably I’d have to go with the traditional power- flying! But I’d prefer to have huge wings like Hawkgirl or Arc Angel instead of magic flight like Superman.

In ‘real’ life
—
Happy alone (with Instagram), in love, married or it’s complicated: Hahaha. Uhm. Unlucky in love? Is that an option? Nah, I’m still shopping around. No one has managed to grab my heart just yet, but I’m open to the idea.
You love to: I love to take photos (obviously!) I love to eat and knit and read. I also love to travel and explore new places. I love to ride trains and swim and learn new things. I’m very curious and I like to ask questions and know more about people and places.
You can’t stand: Monkeys. They freak me out! Their eyes are so human.. I also really can’t stand complainers. I’ve worked in customer service for too many years, I suppose.
A song that best describes you: Easy! ‘‘Don’t stop me now” by Queen
Your hobbies: Photography, knitting, reading, I like shopping at thrift stores and finding hidden gems, biking, learning Chinese. I’d really like to learn the ukulele this year. I’ve never played an instrument before.
A trip you dream of: So, so many. I really want to go to Alaska! There’s so much of America that I haven’t seen. I’m hoping to buy a camper-van and do a tour across America. But I wouldn’t say no to a trip to the Galapagos, or an African safari.. oh! And I would love to go scuba diving in a kelp forest.
A quote: “I believe that we form our own lives, that we create our own reality and that everything works out for the best. I know I drive some people crazy with what seems to be ridiculous optimism, but it has always worked for me.” -Jim Henson-
A wish: I wish for everyone to be well fed.
Some-one you admire: I admire all my friends who are currently making a smooth transition between kids with dreams into smart, successful, interesting, and inspiring adults.
What more must we know about you in one phrase: Coke never Pepsi.

Your life on Instagram
—
Your Instagram birthday: July 27th 2011
iPhone or Android: iPhone 3S to start, then iPhone4S and now Android Galaxy note 2
Did Instagram change your life: Yes. Instagram has been SO good to me and definitely changed my life. I’m now seeing travel and photography as a real professional possibility. Also, I’m feeling the love from my fans everyday. Love you guys! 😀
.
.
Instagram for professional or personal use: Hard to say now a days.. I’d say still personal, although it is becoming more professional as time goes on. The professional side is just allowing me to take some amazing photos in places I may not have gotten to on my own. Or not as quickly, anyway.
Define your style in one word: Adventurism.
Daily time spent on Instagram: I want to say an hour… but let’s be honest, some days it’s more like 2 or 3… depends on how much traveling I’m doing at the time.
Favorite hashtag: #doorporn
A favorite filter: When I had an iPhone it was Hefe. With the the Note 2 I like mayfair or Valencia.
An App: Instagram! <3 haha. I use Snapseed a lot for photo editing but I have to say I probably use Facebook chat the most. Love those little emoticons. Pusheen FTW!
Favorite accessory: : Probably my little Joby tripod for my phone
Pictures that make you laugh on Instagram: I like random accounts a lot. But most consistently, probably @toothlesstippy. My friend @lovethywalrus also writes witty commentaries that I love.
Pictures that must be forbidden on Instagram: Anything poorly focused. You have the tools to take a nice photo, people! Use them.
An improvement for Instagram: I’d like a separate feed for my follows, likes and comments. If you have a huge account those things get lost really quick. I end up not seeing comments, sometimes.
Life without Instagram would be: Much less exciting. Honestly, I don’t think I’d pay attention to the world in so much detail if I wasn’t thinking about it in terms of photography.
An Instagram user we cannot miss: @gaw3. My longtime Instagram friend who is based in China. He takes such fantastic, moody and inspired photos of China. I always admire his photos. Check him out!

How did you take it, any interesting anecdote?: When I took this photo it was one of my last days in Beijing and it was the middle of winter so the light was really beautiful. I guess I was just feeling so desperate to capture my love of china, and the beauty of the place before I left, that the universe just lined up in order for me to take this one perfect picture.
.
Techniques and equipment used: Just a keen eye and a heart full of love and my iPhone 4S.
Thanks Emily, keep up the happy traveling!
